promoting good nutrition in schools
Comments:
On Wednesday morning the headlines in the Seattle PI focused on the growing obesity problem this nation is facing. That evening, as I read through my second-grader's first-day information packet, I found a flyer promoting the Book It program, in which his class is participating. It offers children the incentive of a free pizza hut pizza if they meet their reading goals. Isn't there some other way we can get kids to read? We have never been to Pizza Hut, and have no plans to visit one any time soon. I find it very disappointing that we have to parnter with a big-box junk food retailer to reinforce our teaching strategies. My son would be just as happy with a gold star on a reading chart.
